BSE Global, the parent organization of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, is set to make a significant impact on the Brooklyn community with the launch of the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center. This state-of-the-art, nearly 19,000-square-foot facility, located just steps from Barclays Center on Flatbush Avenue, is scheduled to open this fall and will serve as the new home for Brooklyn Basketball, BSE’s innovative youth development initiative.
Fostering Growth Beyond the Court
The Brooklyn Basketball Training Center will boast two full-size courts, a dedicated half-court “shooting lab,” and auxiliary baskets, all equipped with the latest technology to help young athletes hone their skills. However, the center’s vision extends far beyond just basketball. It’s designed to be a comprehensive development center that nurtures young people both athletically and academically.
“We are excited to further enhance the area surrounding Barclays Center with our Brooklyn Basketball Training Center available to all, right in the heart of Brooklyn,” said Marissa Shorenstein, Chief External Affairs Officer at BSE Global. “This initiative is about more than just basketball — it’s about creating a safe, inclusive space where young people can learn, grow, and connect.”
Recognizing the importance of academic achievement, the facility will also provide dedicated spaces for homework and studying. A comfortable area for parents will further strengthen the sense of community and encourage family participation. The aim is to cultivate a holistic environment that emphasizes development, discipline, and community spirit.
Programs Designed to Inspire and Empower
The new center will host Brooklyn Basketball’s established programs, including daily clinics, after-school sessions, and summer camps. A new after-school initiative tailored for children aged 6 to 14 will also launch this fall. Demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and female empowerment, the program will dedicate every Wednesday exclusively to training for girls.
“The Brooklyn Basketball Training Center is a game-changer, not just for basketball, but for the entire Brooklyn community,” said Sandy Brondello, head coach of the New York Liberty. “We aim to build the future of the game and empower our community, especially young girls, to dream big. Who knows? Some of them might be playing across the street at Barclays Center for the New York Liberty one day.”
Expanding Reach and Impact in the Brooklyn Community
Currently, Brooklyn Basketball reaches approximately 40,000 children annually through its various clinics and school-based programs, in partnership with the Department of Education. The new facility is projected to significantly expand this reach, offering a central, easily accessible location for training, mentorship opportunities, and community gatherings.
This initiative is part of a larger investment in youth basketball by BSE Global. The Liberty recently announced plans to open a state-of-the-art player training center in Greenpoint by 2027, which will also feature courts for community use.
Registration is now open for fall programming at the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center, as well as for summer camps and clinics. The Brooklyn Basketball Training Center is a testament to BSE Global’s commitment to the community and a powerful investment in the future of Brooklyn’s youth.
