Five Decades of Care in East New York

NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, East New York marked its 50th anniversary last week with a community celebration at 2094 Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn. The event brought together local leaders, residents, patients, and families to reflect on the center’s history, celebrate its present-day impact, and look ahead to the future of healthcare in East New York.

Founded in 1974 as the East New York Neighborhood Family Care Center, the facility was created as part of a citywide initiative to expand healthcare access to underserved neighborhoods and address significant health disparities. Its mission was clear from the start: provide essential primary care to residents who lacked other healthcare options.

Over time, the center grew into the East New York Diagnostic and Treatment Center, expanding its services to include both primary and specialty care. In 2015, it joined the NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health network, rebranding to reflect its commitment to comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable care for all New Yorkers.

Expanded Services and Advanced Technology

Today, Gotham Health, East New York continues to adapt to the needs of the community. The center now offers advanced radiology services, including 3D mammography, ultrasounds, and X-rays, as part of a broader effort across Gotham Health facilities to make cutting-edge diagnostic imaging available in local neighborhoods. These improvements aim to deliver faster and more accurate diagnoses, improving patient outcomes while reducing the need for travel to outside facilities.

“It’s an incredible achievement that Gotham Health, East New York has been providing high-quality, affordable care to the community for fifty years,” said Michelle Lewis, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health. “This milestone is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our staff, who have remained committed to serving the needs of our community.”

Commitment to Comprehensive Community Health

The facility provides an extensive range of services, including Primary Care, Family Practice, Adult Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, Behavioral Health, Dentistry, Podiatry, Optometry, WIC Program, and Radiology. By offering these services in one location, Gotham Health ensures that residents of East New York have access to timely, comprehensive care close to home.

“As we gather to celebrate this great milestone in East New York’s history, we express our deep gratitude to Gotham Health, East New York for its unwavering commitment to engaging the community and ensuring high-quality care for patients and their families,” said Charmaine Roach Valentine, Regional Administrative Director, Brooklyn, NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health.
