According to a recent Harvard Magazine article, “there is growing evidence the mind-body-spirt practice of Tai Chi, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems.” Often described as “meditation in motion”, the article goes one step further by adopting the phrase “medication in motion”.
It is imperative that mindful exercises be introduced to all New Yorkers, which is why Healthy NYC is excited to announce a partnership with Healer Within Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is “to advance community-based Qigong/Tai Chi and other self-healing body-mind-spirit practices through collaborations with individuals and organizations to sponsor training, community practice groups and research”. In an effort to spread awareness about the power of Tai Chi, the Healer Within Foundation will be providing a complimentary class at the upcoming Healthy NYC Expo taking place on Saturday, September 7th at the Brooklyn Sports Club from 10 am – 3 pm. (Intro to Tai Chi class is from 2 pm to 3 pm)
The Foundation’s founder is Dr. Roger Jahnke, a doctor of Chinese medicine as well as a Tai Chi/Qigong master who has developed the Tai Chi Easy(tm) practice program taught in leader training classes around the world. The organization’s vision is to help develop a “world of self-healing, wellness, and vitality”. “Tai Chi Easy is not just an exercise or even a meditation, it is also a powerful anchor for social engagement in a community,” expressed Dr. Jahnke.
